Mother of Son with Cerebral Palsy Finds Freedom to Travel and Explore Thanks to Reliable Incontinence Care

Key Takeaways:

  • Mother of teen with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy discovered NorthShore diapers after years of products that leaked, caused skin breakdown, and limited family adventures close to home.

  • NorthShore incontinence products enabled extended outdoor activities, such as horseback riding, hiking in state parks, swimming, and traveling, without fear of leaks, odors, or discomfort during therapy.

  • Reliable incontinence protection transformed daily life from constant diaper checks and shortened outings to planning ambitious trips, including airplane travel, camping, and cross-country adventures.

Esther shares her story

“Whatever it takes
‘Cause I love the adrenaline in my veins
I do whatever it takes
‘Cause I love how it feels when I break the chains”

Lyrics by Imagine Dragons, Whatever It Takes

(One of my son’s favorite songs.)

Beep….Beep….Beep

The alarms go off, timed throughout the day for medications, checking diapers, and routines. The schedule is tight. Every half an hour means checking something — skin breakdown, pressure spots, seizures, position changes, diapers, and schedule/routie changes. Weeks are full of appointments for specialty doctors and therapists…but that is not what life is about.

Horseback riding in the Missouri Ozark hills, hiking through the fall leaves in Michigan’s Van Riper State Park, swimming in Lake Superior, watching movies in the theater, eating at local bakeries, tasting frozen custard at the ice cream shop, boat rides, visiting family and good friends, and taking trips to wherever you want to go…this is what life is about and NorthShore made it possible.

Sixteen years ago, we didn’t know what the future held for our son. As all parents want their kids to do and experience as much as possible, we did too. Having spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, he has many no’s in his life — and that is why we fight for as many yeses as possible. Northshore makes that fight easier.

We struggled for years to keep our son clean and comfortable. Each venture was shortened and limited to close to home, because of other diapers. They caused skin breakdown, leaked, smelled, and were uncomfortable, let alone not being able to hold much.  After days of searching Reddit threads, Facebook posts, and reviews on several websites I found NorthShore adult diapers, mentioned by people who wear them. I hesitantly ordered our first batch — the price seemed steep. Immediately, his skin cleared up, he didn’t leak no matter what therapies we were doing, odors were no longer an issue, and my son was comfortable for hours during any of his outings. The price no longer seemed steep.

Currently, thanks to NorthShore, our son looks forward to going on long daily walks, trips to state parks, and future, bigger plans: flying on airplanes, taking long road trips to see mountains and waterfalls, horseback riding in Nevada with his cowboy brother, visiting museums in Washington, D. C. with his sister, and camping with his Aunt, looking for moose in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan…this is what life is all about.
