Reclaiming My Stride: One Customer’s Journey Back to Themselves After Injury and Incontinence

Two people sit across from each other at a café table, smiling and chatting over coffee. One gestures while speaking, and an open laptop sits between them near large windows with potted greenery in the background.

After the accident, the physical recovery was difficult, but the hardest part was the onset of incontinence that I was entirely unprepared for. I went from being someone who loved long walks by the lake and spontaneous weekend trips to someone who planned every moment around bathrooms and backup clothing. The planning I could handle, as I'm a natural optimist and quite determined. But the letdown and humiliation caused by so many inadequate incontinence products left me stranded in my home despite my efforts. I was already in pain and struggling in my recovery to build the new person I was going to be in this journey. But then to feel taken advantage of by products I was so dependent on, yet barely knew about, was a strange defeat. "Out of my hands" was a phrase I never liked to use, but through frustrated teary eyes I couldn't explain my situation otherwise.

A nurse at my rehabilitation center quietly suggested I try NorthShore, saying many of her patients found their products more reliable. I ordered a pack of the NorthShore MegaMax adult diapers, not expecting much. I remember the first day I wore one. It was just a feeling, but it really felt different. I caught myself singing to myself doing laundry that day. Because that familiar panic wasn't there, I remembered what it felt like to daydream and enjoy my home again. It was a moment of peace and steadiness. Maybe there is something to this NorthShore?

Continuing on in my recovery journey with NorthShore as my close friend, I went to the grocery store, something I hadn't done in months. No constantly checking for signs of leaking or mapping out emergency exits. Many more outings followed in the coming weeks. I went for a short walk around my neighborhood, I visited my sister without packing half my closet "just in case."

Slowly, NorthShore's products helped me trust my body again. It wasn't just about protection — which these briefs certainly did well — it was about the dignity and honesty NorthShore offered in their products. It was about feeling like my optimistic self, not my limited situation. It was about recognizing myself in the mirror and the thoughts in my head.

I'm back to doing the things I love. Long walks. Coffee dates. Even a weekend trip to the coast that I never thought I'd attempt again. NorthShore didn't just support me physically, they helped me reclaim my stride with the person I know I am, knew I can be, and have loved. I'll always be grateful for that.
