Booster Pads vs. Incontinence Liners: What's the Difference?
How incontinence liners, pads, guards, and booster pads work, where each one belongs, and how to use them together for better leak protection.
A liner holds liquid in. A booster pad lets liquid pass through. Wearing one where the other belongs is one of the most common reasons leaks continue even after someone adds more protection.
This guide explains how each product works, why the two should never be swapped, which NorthShore® products fit which situation, how to size and place a booster pad, and how to tell when it may be time for a higher level of protection.

The highest-absorbency setup |
Size matters as much for a booster pad as for the adult diaper it sits in.
The booster should fit fully between the primary product's inner leak guards, sitting within them rather than on top of them, with no folding or overlapping. A booster that rides up over the leak guards can interfere with the seal they create at the legs.
Center the booster on the inner lining of the adult diaper or pull-up style underwear with the adhesive side down, then put on the primary product as usual. For bowel incontinence, the contoured XL and 2XL sizes add coverage in the front and rear.
The primary product still needs to fit well for the booster to do its job. Measuring the waist and hips and using the larger number is the most reliable way to find the right size, and the Adult Diaper Sizing Guide covers the full process. A soiled product should always be changed promptly, and an immediate change is required after any bowel movement, regardless of how much capacity remains.
