- I want to purchase this for use with whelping puppies. Is the surface slippery or more cloth like for little puppy feet not to slip

- I purchased this underpaid and it is just what I was looking for, but when I opened the box the pad has a very strong chemical smell. �I washed the pad and the smell remains. �Does this smell go away? �My parent can't handle chemical type smells.
