6 Achievable New Year's Resolution Tips for Seniors of All Ages

The new year is right around the corner and now is the time to consider New Year's resolutions for 2018. When we set attainable goals for ourselves it can give us a sense of accomplishment. It's a great feeling for someone who is elderly because it may be hard to do a lot of things they once did before. What are some goals to pursue? Planting a vegetable garden? Attending a community event? You don't have to start big you can set a smaller attainable goal for yourself and work your way up to the top. It's also important to set a timeline to ensure the goal is met on a certain day or time. Sometimes if our goals are set too high we can often get discouraged if we don't achieve them. It's important to consider goals you know are achievable. Let's consider a few ways you can get in the swing of things this new year.

Offer to help - Volunteering can be a great way to get out of the house and help those in need. It helps keep our brain active and allows us to meet new people with similar interests.

Spend time with family - Spending time with family members or grandkids can help keep relationship bonds close. The more time that's spent the more memories you can cherish.

Challenge your brain - Crossword and word search puzzles can help keep our minds active and help build more of our mental muscle that will help keep our memory sharp.

Ask for help - Sometimes we often feel like a burden or we don't want to show signs of weakness but learning to overcome that could help make our lives a bit more easier.

Keep close friendship - Maintaining a relationship with those who you've known for years can help bring positivity in your life. Laughing together and spending quality time with those who truly care about your overall health and happiness can be worth it.

Eat healthy - Eating healthy foods could increase our energy, reduce the risk of disease and help us to maintain a healthy weight.

Please consult with your doctor before taking any vitamins or medication.

All of these things can be ways to make the new year a great one! Setting a timeline for an achievable goal can help us feel accomplished and determined in a way that will allow us to motivate others to do the same.
